Fast Food Can Be Healthy and Light–Especially When it’s Grilled Rotisserie Chicken

If you’re heading down to the beach and want to bring a light, but healthy, lunch, you’re probably going to fill your picnic basket with chicken wings or a rotisserie chicken, rather than another type of fast food such as pizza.

When you’re on your way to a local club and want to stop somewhere convenient for something light to eat, you’ll probably choose a restaurant that serves chicken as well.

After returning home from a night of dancing and socializing with friends, you’re probably going to be hungry. Rather than going out again, or cooking, you’ll probably call for food delivery from one of your favorite restaurants that offers your favorite style of chicken.

If you’re hosting a large afternoon party, have you considered using caterers? Just imagine your guests smilling when they see all those platters of succulent Latin-spiced rotisserie chicken. Add in all the usual side dishes, and everyone will enjoy a wonderful meal together.

It’s clear that chicken continues to be one of the favorite meals, and protein choices, in the United States. In fact, chicken is consumed more in the United States than in any other country.

In 2015 alone, for example, it was estimated that 90.1 pounds of chicken was consumed per person. In 2016, the National Chicken Council expects that chicken consumption will increase to 91.8 pounds per person. There were nearly nine billion broiler chickens produced in 2015, which equals over 40 billion pounds of chicken.

Chicken is also a favorite meal for the entire family during holidays and other festive occasions. When it’s close to the 4th of July, for example, were you aware that 700 million pounds of chicken are purchased?

While some of this chicken may be purchased for barbecuing or baking at home, there’s a substantial amount that is provided by catering and food delivery services.

You’re probably curious about the origins of all this chicken. There are approximately 25,000 family farms with chicken-production contracts. Around 95% of broiler chickens come from these farms, while the remainder come from company farms.

The next time you call for a food delivery or need to have a quick, but healthy bite to eat, chances are that you are going to have chicken wings or a rotisserie chicken. If you haven’t experienced Latin-spiced chicken yet, be sure to have it next time.
